What is The Master Cleanse?
The Master Cleanse better known as the Lemonade Diet is a modified juice fast. This fast permits no food, substituting tea and lemonade made with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. The diet was developed by Stanley Burroughs, who initially marketed it in the 1940s, and revived it in his 1976 book The Master Cleanser.
Many celebrities including Beyonce have used this diet to get rid of weight fast. Since I’ve had my daughter I’ve had a difficult time feeling like my “old self”. I decided to make a change I began researching different methods for rapid weight loss and different recipes for clean eating. The first diet I tried was called the “The 10-day green smoothie cleanse”. It was recommended to me by a friend. I loved that cleanse so much. It was simple and made me feel full throughout the day. I fell back into old habits quickly once Covid-19 debuted and everyone was quarantined. Whatever weight I lost I quickly gained back.
How did I Find The Master Cleanse:
Pinterest Duh! I researched colon cleanses on Pinterest and results for The Master Cleanse kept coming up so I decided to try it. Many women that did the cleanse for 10 days lost anywhere from 10-15 pounds. Some even saw results by day three! I was excited until I saw the ingredients needed. CAYENNE PEPPER?! Spicy drinks were something that I never consumed so I was a bit nervous. “Beauty is pain” so I went to my Nearest Food Lion and got to work.
Ingredients Needed For The Master Cleanse:
According to Holistic Mode on Pinterest the recipe is:
8 oz. purified water
1/10 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tbsp organic lemon juice
2 tbsp maple syrup (Grade B)
Mix and have 6 to 7 times a day for 10 to 14 days
Now I bought everything on the ingredients and also bought Smooth Move Tea from Walmart to help everything “move along”. I also opted for 7 days instead of 10 because this indeed was my first time fasting.
My Final Thoughts on The Master Cleanse:
Overall, my experience was good. I thought that it would be difficult because I thought I would be hungry throughout the day but I did not have that problem. Whenever I felt hungry or had a headache I would just drink more lemonade. The taste wasn’t horrific either. It has a slight heat in the back of your throat going down. There was an instance when I added a bit too much cayenne pepper and paid for it later on the toilet. I only drank The Smooth Move Tea at night. This helped my bowels move at night so I could pass them in the morning. In the first two days, I saw instant results. My usual “morning bloat” was not there and I did not feel sluggish at all. My scale was broken at the time of this cleanse but I think I may have lost at least 5-7 pounds during this journey.
After completing this cleanse I have continued to eat clean. No fried foods, white flour, or white sugars. I have been eating mainly fish, dark greens such as kale, and brown or yellow rice. Sometimes I add squashes, Sweet potatoes, or mushrooms in the mix as well. I recommend being mindful of your diet after doing this cleanse. Fast weight loss equals an even faster weight gain. Light cardio such as walking around the block, or dancing for at least 30 min will help keep the blood flowing and help keep the weight down.
Lastly, never feel pressured to do crazy diets all the time. Body shaming is not cool! Self-love is important so, change for yourself and your health. Know that you are perfect before any diet. You’re just adding extra sparkles to a shining star!
