When you think of self-care you probably have skincare products, bath bombs, and sugar scrubs that pop up in your mind. Though taking care of the outer body is quite important, your inner body is where the real magic happens. Self-care is the practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s health. The practice can be done in a plethora of ways. In this particular post, I have gathered 5 self-care tips to help improve your nighttime routine.
1.) Reflect on Your Day:
Taking the time out to self reflect will help you shape your next day. Write out key points of your day and figure out what worked out and what didn’t. Understanding this information will help you appreciate your wins for the day.
Next, write down thoughts of what you wanted to do for the day and if it was accomplished. Acknowledge your efforts and pat yourself on the back. If you had a bad day still try to appreciate the experience and jot down the lessons learned from it. Just always try to end the notes with something positive to help you move forward.
2.) Take a Bubble Bath with Epsom Salt:
Bubble baths are top tier for self-care but coupled with Epsom salt just expands its AWESOMENESS! Don’t think Epsom salt is just for old people and athletes. Epsom Salt Provides Magnesium. Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. In short, this self-care tip promotes sleep and reduces stress.
Run a lukewarm bath with your favorite scented bubble bath and add half a cup of Epsom salt to the tub while the water is running. Lastly, soak in the tub for at least 20 minutes to ensure that your body has indulged in maximum relaxation mode. (Here is my favorite brand)
Furthermore, lighting is key to this exercise. Keep your lighting low to enhance relaxation. Light your favorite candles to set the mood. Add some wine and wash the day away.
3.) Moisturize! Moisturize! Again Moisturize! :
Generally speaking, it should be second nature to put lotion on before bed. Nonetheless, it was surprising to see the alarming number of people that didn’t. After the body has touched the water the skin becomes dry after it gets exposed to the air. This makes the skin dry and cracked over time. So by stating that it’s imperative to moisturize the skin every night. Ensuring that your skin is glowing, smooth, and healthy is self-care. how to use vitamin c serum
I enjoy using cocoa butter mixed with essential oils, for example, coconut oil. Lavender oil is also great for night time. Adding a few drops to your favorite body cream will promote aromatherapy which, calms the nervous system. (best lotion for dry skin) Massaging the body will release tension and relieve stress. This self-care tip will leave you soft as a baby’s bottom and help you sleep like one too.
4.) Decrease Your Screen-time:
Without a doubt, this one is going to be difficult. Cut off all screens 30 minutes before bed. This is step is important because the blue light from phones and TVs interferes with the production of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that helps us sleep. Consequently, the lack of sleep can cause us to be irritable the next day and even bags under our eyes.
So get off Tik-Tok and Go to Bed!
5.) Speak Out Affirmations For Tomorrow
Lastly, Show gratitude for the day and speak out positive affirmations for the next day. Doing this exercise will help you keep a bright outlook for the future and increase your chances of having a better day.
